What first drew you into music production and dubstep production in particular?
As a kid growing up I was always drawn towards electronic or synthesized sounds in music. I was fascinated with how those sounds were made, and I looked for genres of music that had cool and interesting synths. I started composing music on the computer when I was 13, and then when I was a little bit older I listened to my first dubstep track and it blew me away. Ever since then I have been perfecting my skills in dubstep production.
Artificial425 is a unique producer name, how did you choose that name? Any special meaning behind it?
The word artificial means to create something that is not natural, to emulate or replicate something that is found in nature. Sound is natural and I am recreating my own sounds from frequencies that already exist. The word artificial also describes the duality of human nature; people seem to value authenticity but portray artificiality. The number 42 references a British film called Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy, where 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. The number 5 comes from the number of people in my family because I would not have the opportunities I have now without them.
Dubstep is known to be one of the most complex genres to produce, how did you manage to develop such great mixing skills in such a short time? Also, what is your studio setup like?
I’ve been producing electronic music for about 6 years and I’ve taken classes and I am currently studying a degree in audio engineering, so I feel that has improved my capabilities to mix. I currently have an at home studio with axiom monitors, subwoofer, and midi controllers. I hope to soon move my setup to a studio outside of the home.
Your latest track “reach for the sun” is your best track in our opinion! From its artwork to the Incredibly powerful sound we absolutely love it. Could you tell us more about the story behind this track? Also, what is your creative processes like?
Reach For The Sun was a collaborative effort with another Dubstep artist called Strakten I had heard his music on Soundcloud and reached out to him and asked him if he wanted to collaborate.
This track is about how a person must work hard at what they love to become good at it and to always strive for greater things, thus the name reach for the sun.
When I create music It usually comes from an experience I’ve had in my life that I would like to translate into music. I first come up with a beat that fits the feel of the concept of the track, then I overlay the melodies and all the layers that go into a full track.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I would like to see myself producing music for a major label, on tour around the world, or becoming a go to audio engineer for a talented artist that has a major influence in the music industry.
What are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
My goals for the new year is to get my music to a professional level in all aspects and to continue growing my fanbase and start performing at concerts. Some upcoming things to look out for, I will be producing more music as a collaboration with other artists.
