The HBT Crew is eager to present you with our latest incredible find: 16-year-old Seattle native Oliver Chang. The progressive house aficionado has already been producing for almost 4 years—yes, that’s a quarter of his lifetime—and he has the accomplishments to show for his hard work. Functioning under his own name Oliver Chang, and under the alias Aura for his funkier Porter Robinson-esque productions, the young talent’s well on his way to creating a remarkable brand for himself, and we’re happy to support him on his way up.
What sets him apart from most progressive house producers are the crafted melodies he uses in his tracks, and the transcendent atmosphere he creates through the sounds he selects. The unique way in which he combines traditional musical elements makes for a listening experience in which, after sitting through a full track, you can’t help but come up with one umbrella term to sum up the vibe. Pretty awesome, if you ask us. You’ll find yourself saying, “Shit. That feels like ____.”

He plays a couple shows here and there in his hometown of Seattle, but he spends most of his time locked up in the studio working on more musical excellence for us all. 2015’s going to be filled with track releases on more amazing labels, crazy collaborations, and the beginning of his relationship with an influential manager who’s working on revamping the Oliver Chang style to make it even better (not that there’s much room for improvement)! What to expect from Oliver next? More tracks like the amazing classic Heartbeat—an HBT favourite.
2014 played a huge role in the advancement of Oliver’s career. He grabbed the world’s attention through the release of Arkham on Michael Brun’s label Kid Coconut, a track he built in collaboration with Lee Carter and Daniel Étienne. The track—an industry hit—received support from the likes of Hardwell, Tiesto, Axwell /\ ingrosso, Steve Angello, and many, many more. He’s recently become acquainted with incredible producers like Max Vangeli and Jakob Liedhold a.k.a Jake Liedo, so he’s found himself invited into the right circles.

The thing about Oliver Chang is that he doesn’t need to make boisterous statements about what he wants to do or thinks he’ll do. He’s already done it. He’s made incredible tracks with incredible people, he’s gotten amazing feedback from industry pioneers, and he’s mastered the art of making people feel through his music. Isn’t that the goal? And if that’s where he is at age 16, you better believe we’ll be bragging about this Discover when he’s 20. Hit up Oliver on his social media below, and check out our favourite tracks from his SoundCloud!
