What first drew you into music production and electronic music in particular?
At first, I explored the world of a singer-songwriter. I honed my guitar skills by studying song structure, rhythm, chord progression and harmony. I learnt the art of writing meaningful lyrics, and took singing classes. After writing my first acoustic EP, I felt the need to dive into the world of production to enrich my songs and bring all my ideas to life. I don’t see myself as a genre based artist, I follow my inspiration when it strikes and focus on the “feel” of the song I am creating, no matter what direction it takes. What I love about electronic music is the limitless possibilities to express myself and the freedom of shaping sound into something truly original.
Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love producing old school electronic music, however we have never heard electronic music quite like you make it, could you tell us more about how you managed to achieve your sound?
I usually start to compose a song with my guitar, a melody and follow a Verse-Chorus structure which I think is not so common in electronic music. I believe my sound is the result of the union between my musical background: Electro, Blues and R&13/Soul music.
Your latest track “Electric Feeling” is very well mixed and mastered! We really love the sound design and we wonder what tool/tools are you using to achieve your unique sounds?
Thank you, I really appreciate it I I use Ableton as my DAW and produced Electric Feeling with my guitar Gretsch 1963, the Moog Sub37, the NordA1 and sticked with the built in Ableton FX. The main tool I rely on to achieve my sound is my ear, I study the art of synthesis everyday and I truly believe it is one of the most fundamental aspects of music production to create your own sound. Preset is an amazing starting point to generate an idea, but understanding synthesis allows me to shape sound the way I imagine it.
Going over your Soundcloud profile we can tell you are an analog synth user, what is your favorite synth and why?
My favourite synths are the Moog Sub37 for its unique tone (slightly dark), its a powerful arpeggiator, extensive modulation options and the Nord Al for its smoothness, versatility and intuitive interface! I can’t choose one over the other, I love them both.
2017 has just passed, how would you summarize 2017? Did it turn out the way you expected it to?
This year has been a big learning curve both as an artist and producer, and I am glad to have reached the goals I have set myself to achieve. I have come to realize that expectations kills my productivity so I live the days as they come!
2018 has just began, what are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
My main goals for this new year are to keep on improving as an artist and a producer, releasing quality music and performing live on a regular basis. I am currently working on a new track and I will make regular videos making music in my studio on my Instagram account “voahmusic”
I can’t thank you enough for the support, Thank you HBT Magazine!
