What first drew you into music?

Honestly, I’d have to say sports.  Whether that was pregame mixes to get me hyped up, to pass-time during travel, listening while working out or playing; music was always there in one way or another.

My early electronic influences were Porter Robinson, The Chainsmokers, Madeon and Zedd.  After watching The Chainsmokers 2016 Ultra Miami set, I bought Ableton and began my production journey.

Your track “Always” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?

Thank you so much, it really does mean a lot.  I’ve experimented with a couple different sounds under other aliases in the past – which you can find if you do some digging.  I think my sound is continuously evolving, and I’m finally at a point where I am starting to put out the music that I’ve always wanted to make.

I’m a very visual person, and I like to think of a specific moment in time where I think the song would be played, and then I almost provide a musical score to my thoughts.  From there, the creative process just flows out. It’s really about what I’m feeling in that moment or on a particular day. I love producing while traveling, or in random outdoor places.  But overall, creativity is fleeting and can come at any moment, so you just have to be prepared to capture that, even if its something as simple as recording a voice note.

Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?

My studio setup is simple.  It’s way more about comfort than copious amounts of hardware gear for me.  I’ve been in these absolutely beautiful studios with so many resources at your finger-tips, which are super fun and awesome to work in their own right, but nothing beats being home.

My favorite plugins at the moment would have to be Dune 3 for a synthesizer or Valhalla Shimmer – for a sparkly reverb.  I also use a lot of 80’s emulation plugins made by Arturia – all of which are phenomenal.

Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?

In the past I’ve played the trumpet, drums, piano and even played the xylophone (doesn’t get much cooler than that).  I’m constantly trying to learn and improve at whatever instrument I can. Recently, I’ve been making an effort to incorporate more organic elements into my tracks, either playing them myself or having other artists hop on, so I am glad that you noticed!

What are your musical goals for the future?

To continue putting out a constant stream of remixes and original music under the Trueblue name, and to continue working on my live show.  I hope to connect with fans from all over the world, and that my music will resonate with them in some way. Overall, its just to make music that I love, and hopefully other people enjoy it.  If I can make at least one person happy with my music, I think it’s all worth it.

I’d also love to get into scoring TV or movies, and to continue collaborating with more artists, expanding the Trueblue brand.

Long term, I’d love to go on a headline tour to continue connecting with my fans, and to continue to have the opportunity to play my music in live settings.

What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

In the coming months I have music dropping which I’m super excited about both original songs and remixes, and even some collaborations!  So my goal is to keep working hard, to work on music, and and to keep releasing music. I have a ton of original songs that I’m excited about, so maybe an EP of some sorts?

I think the music I have coming out provides a broader reflection of the sound Im seeking to create, and explores a wide range of genres that I’ve always loved.

I’m also working as the Head of Music for DONT WALK, which is a student run fashion show where I attend the University of St Andrews, that benefits the Rainforest Alliance among other local charities.  Its been a super cool experience thus far, and I’m very excited for what we have in store for both the upcoming Launch and the show in the spring.
