I put woofers in my car back in high school and it was my first investment in sound equipment. I didn’t make any beats at the time so it was the only way for me to have any fun with music. Then in 2013, I attended my first music festival. I went home and from that day on my mind was set on pursuing a career in music. After years of performing live and teaching myself how to produce, I sought training to further my passion. Music has always been special for me because it has given me an outlet for all my creative ideas.
Your track “So High” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?
Thank you! My sound derives from raw emotion and is built upon my life experiences. Traveling the world and seeing new cultures exposed me to new sounds, ideas and ultimately has had a positive impact on my creative process.
Every song I compose is built upon a feeling or experience in my life. I search for elements to include in my production that will help others feel the same way I do. These sounds mimic the emotions I experience and as I continue to develop my skills, the accuracy of expressing these emotions has increased.
Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?
I love to experiment with new sounds because diversity is fascinating to me. I have challenged myself to push boundaries and innovate sound so those who follow me can use my story for guidance when navigating their own creative journey.
I have a home studio setup (Apollo Twin Interface) (Presonus Monitors) (Yamaha 12” sub) scanned for SonarWorks. I also utilize various studios in the LA area when I have the chance. My favorite plugin is Serum, which I use to create my bass sounds. I also use many other synthesizers like Sylenth, RePro and Bass Station. Plugins such as Effectrix, CamelCrusher, Ozone, Trash, and Little Alter Boy are some of my favorites to incorporate in my tracks. I used Little Alter Boy to do all the vocal pitching in my song “CHEVY”.
Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?
Thank you so much! I put a lot of effort into making my music sound organic and authentic. Piano is my instrument of choice and I have been studying keyboard for about a year now. I have also experimented with the drums, which has also assisted in creating a more natural sound. Eventually I will incorporate a lot of live playing into my releases as I progress in my career.
What are your musical goals for the future?
One of my goals for the future is collaborating with my favorite vocalists and including them on various projects. Tory Lanez, Roddy Ricch, Nav, 6lack, Eminem and Juicy J are some of my
favorite vocalists that I hope to work with in the future. Playing out my original productions at a major festival has also been a goal of mine for many years. Ultimately, I hope to create an independent record label home to many talented artists.
What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
In the coming months I will release my first EP and play various shows in the Los Angeles area further expanding the HEXED brand. You can expect multiple releases in the coming months as I strive to be one of the most active artists in the dance community.
