What first drew you to EDM music production?

When I first got my MacBook, I started playing around with Garageband every day but my production was horrible. I wanted to quit but after watching the music video for “One” by Swedish House Mafia, the intro with the OP-1 synth blew me away. After that, I started going to a lot of different shows to get inspiration. I wanted to get better at producing so every day I would watch Youtube tutorials and in 2013, I joined a music producing school.

 

Your latest track “Joyride” reached the 45^th spot in the Beatport future house charts! Could you tell us more about the story behind this track and how it came together? 

I would say the inspiration behind “Joyride” was my reflection of 2017. It first started off as a progressive house track but I stopped producing it mid-year because I didn’t know what direction I wanted to head towards.  The drop of Joyride represents how my mind felt at that time.  However, I heard a remix of “Tell Me You Love Me” by Galantis and Throttle towards the end of 2017, which inspired me to finish the track.  I made one original and one remix; overall, I wanted to capture my state of mind in 2017.

 

Coming from New York do you have any favorite clubbing spots?

They’re so many good clubs in New York but I would have to say Marquee, Output and Central. If Pacha was still around, I would have to put that as number one. I have so many memories growing up and going to Pacha every weekend.

 

You have released several remixes in the past year and they are all incredible! Do you plan to keep releasing more remixes? Also, how do you know if a song is a good candidate for remixing?

I try to bring back old vocals with a present-day sound. It’s hard to choose a song to remix because if I like the original version I tend not to remix it, but at the same time, I only want to remix a track if it catches my ear. I have about 20 tracks in a folder that I want to remix and hopefully get five done this year.

 

2017 has just passed, how would you summarize 2017? Did it turn out the way you expected it to?

In the past, I was more focused on the producing side that I didn’t play any shows in 2016 but in 2017, I wanted it to be the opposite. I was playing shows once or twice a week which was great but in 2018, I hope to focus on how to handle both.

 

2018 has just began, what are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

This year I want to explore and create different kinds of house music. I set a goal in December to have a new track every month, so I have 11 more to go. I wrapped up a new track last week which sounds totally different from “Joyride” and hopefully I’ll get that one released in February. My biggest project I’m working on right now is my first house/pop original vocal track with a vocalist who has sang on tracks with Sony Music, Spinnin Records, Armada Records and many more.
