Exclusive Interview: TREBLE6BEATS x ALIAS x Strain_23

What first drew you into music production and hip-hop production in particular?

Zanecks/treble6 – Listening to Tupac got me wanting to make music I remember knowing about his music as a kid and Dr Dre and the whole west coast scene and as I got to about 16 I started to listen to pac really deeply and his persona and
who he was as a person really inspired me to pick up a pen pad and mic and also to start making my own beats

Alias – when I was 14 years old I first heard Tupac’s albums all eyez on me it completely changed my perspective on the
music I listened to. After that, I just scoured the internet for old school hip hop anything I could get my hands on.

Strain_23 – Well, I come from a classical piano and blues background and have been composing since I was about fourteen. What drew me to hip-hop was my friends. They slowly introduced me to the genre by having me listen to artists
such as Tupac, XXXTentacion, MF DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt, and Kanye West. While listening to their music I found myself
enthralled by the energy of the music as well as the progressions, constant change, and innovation within the genre which ultimately led me to be the other instrumentalist for the group. I actually didn’t get into the production until I
needed a plugin for a music box which led me to FL studio and I just thought, “Hey, why not? This could be a great experience!” and not long after I turned my studies from noir jazz and rock to percussion theory and hip-hop production.

Your latest track “small heart big head” is the perfect example of your signature sound, can you tell us more about what it took to achieve that sound?

Zanecks/treble6 – Our track small heart big head is just a sample of whats to come with our unique sound we as a
group and me myself listen to a lot of grunge music nirvana etc kurt cobain is a huge inspiration, when i produced the beat for small heart big head lil peep just died and it hit me quite hard I made the beat with the intention of paying tribute to him the original beat name was called for peep… but our sound, in my opinion, comes from all the different
guys we listen to if I could put it in perspective we are what tupac and kurt cobain put together would sound like

Alias – Its literally 3 friends just having fun. We all come from different backgrounds I feel the sound is so unique we
are 3 friends making music we love if people think its unique then that’s all I could ask for.

Strain_23 – I had a very little hand in the making of that song however, I was an influencer and was there for the entire
process of the creation. It all started when Lil Peep passed away. All of us were saddened by his passing and in memory
of him, Zanecks made an instrumental. It quickly became a favorite of ours and after a while of it sitting on Soundcloud,
we decided it should be used. I can’t say anything on Zanecks’ performance or inspiration, however, I was there with Alias.
Alias and I are both very big fans of lyrical rap so flow change and fast rapping were already a given. The rest is mostly the making and tweaking of multiple voice effects inspired by both Kendrick and Travis Scott.

Who is your favorite artist/producer?

Zanecks/treble6 – My favourite artist of all time is 2pac however right now in the game my favourite artist is Travis
Scott I would love to work with him one day and my favourite producer is between Tm88 and metro boomin when metro is on his dark 21 savage production.

Alias – I could never choose a favorite artist personally, but I have a couple that I look up to. such as MF DOOM, Madlib, Tupac, Kurt Cobain, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Death Grips and brockhampton just to name a few.

Strain_23 – I could never truly pick a favorite artist so I have to settle with a tie between MF Doom, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Madlib, and Brockhampton.

Going over your Soundcloud profile we can tell you like working with other producers/artists and it can you tell us more about your collaborative processes?

Zanecks/treble6 – My creative process is heavy based on my emotions during the time I’m working on beats however my lyrics are more based on past life experiences and my dreams and how I view the world and society as a whole in terms of collabs I work closely with my friends in Illnoise jake Mcmahon (alias) and strain_23 (Brandon Miller) and
also me myself well I’m from Scotland so we are very far apart but we talk all the time and work best we can I also work with another friend of mine who is a producer his producer tag is 500 before work with anyone I really need to vibe with people before a collab.

Strain_23 –  Our collaborative process is mostly something like this, “Hey you like this?”, “Yeah, cool”, “Cool.” Or, “I need a beat/video/design/lyrics”, “Ok.” and that’s when we get to work.

You have started publishing your music on Soundcloud only a month ago and we wonder when you started producing beats?

Zanecks/treble6 – Me personally I started making beats nearly 3 years ago that goes the same with my writing of lyrics been a big learning curve.

Strain_23 – Well, as a group we have an array of singles as well as few other projects to be announced later.

What are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

Zanecks/treble6 – Me personally I have a single coming out with producer 500 but us as a group we have an array of singles on the way maybe a mixtape we are working on a label too.
