I’ve been drawn to music for as long as I can remember but I think what really captivated me was experiencing live shows both as a spectator and an artist. I played shows with a few different orchestras as a young child and also in bands with my guitar, as the time passed I eventually grew out of that and moved onto the electronic scene around 2007 when I first discovered DnB and dubstep, fast forward to 2008 when I caught my first dubstep show, the line up was Nero, Rusko & Pendulum. The show was absolutely incredible and like nothing I had ever seen! I knew then that this was my passion.
Your track “Bringing Wobble Back” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?
Thank you!
I’ve spent a long time sitting at my computer playing with different synthesizers trying to create heavy sounds but I think a big turning point in my production was when I made the switch from Logic Pro to Ableton Live at the start of this year, since then iv been none stop in the studio trying to create new music and push the boundaries of my abilities and I feel like its really starting to pay off.
My process usually begins with a solid drum pattern, I believe drums can really make or break a track so its important to get that laid down first. I like to either add a lot of subtle foley to my beats or even create my own drum samples, for example in my track ‘Welcome To The Elevator’ the drums are all made from me hitting things I found lying around the house and stacking different hand claps for the snares. When I’m happy with the drums I feel like thats sort of half the battle really so I’l load up some plug ins and start playing with bass’s until I find something that I feel sounds catchy then I play around in automation mode to make the sounds more unique. The rest of the track really is just all the little changes that most people won’t notice even though they can be very important.
Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?
I really don’t have a much at my home studio, all my tracks are just made on my laptop. I make the most of what I have here, with VST’s like Serum, Sylenth, Phase Plant ETC. I feel like I have enough to make great tracks without spending thousands on hardware. Having good speakers is very important though which is why I invested in some Adam Audio monitors which are amazing to work with.
Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?
Not anymore unfortunately however I do have a very musical background, I began to play the Tuba when I was around 6 or 7 and joined an orchestra shortly after, I played in the orchestra all over the country for many years of my childhood. I regret my choice to leave that behind in hindsight but I did move onto play the guitar for around 13 years which taught me a lot about music and what still gives me most inspiration for my music today.
What are your musical goals for the future?
I think if I could have one ultimate goal in my career it would be to collaborate with a legend. I’ve always thought of Skrillex as one of the most incredible producers of our time but also Virtual Riot and Space Laces are high up on my list of dream collaborations.
I think a more reachable goal though would be to have my own original tracks played out to huge crowds across the world so thats what I’m gonna work towards in the coming years.
What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
I’m currently working on a huge EP with multiple collaborations which is 100% my best work yet so keep your eyes out for that one!
I think what I’m most excited for though is to play my next show in Toronto, Canada. I took the whole year off DJing to focus more on production after moving back to England last January so it will be my first show this year and I have so much new music to showcase. Its sure to be my biggest set so far and I’m also stoked to be sharing that line up with one of my all time favorite artists, Eptic and some of Toronto’s best local bass DJ’s!
