HBT Chats With EL L

What first drew you to EDM Music Production?

It was 2011 and dubstep was beginning to become very popular. I thought the sounds being made were amazing nothing like I have ever heard before and I said to myself I want to do that. Artists like Flux Pavillion and Skrillex definitely got me into EDM production.

Your track “Give Me Back My Ghost” is very modern and sounds very professional. How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?

I just experiment with VST’s and try to create new sounds. I like to layer lots of different synths and real instrument samples. I think you could consider that part of my “sound”. I have been producing on and off for about 5 years, and what has made me progress so much is watching professional level tutorials and just spending the time in my DAW (Digital Audio Workshop).

EL L is a unique name, could you tell us more about the name and what it means to you?

I come from a Cuban background, and my first name is Luke. EL is masculine “the” and L for my first name. Kind of simple but hopefully memorable.

All of your tracks are very unique, and it seems like you love experimenting with different genres! Could you tell us more about some of your favorite genres to produce?

Definitely hip-hop and EDM. I like to meld different genres together to try and create something new. I am extremely drawn to Hip Hop because of how real it can be and the stories that can be told with it.

We love all of your remixes and wondered if you plan to keep releasing more remixes in the future?

I like to do remixes if I feel like I can add something or make it different. I currently have a couple remixes set to release in the very near future. I am very excited about them as they are some of the best work I have done to date.

2018 has just started. What are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

I have a two-part album set to release this spring. I have been working on it for the past 8 months and I am extremely excited about it. I just finished working on a Hip Hop EP for “Who’s Man’s”. It is very similar to $uicideboys and Delusional Thomas. Some goals I have for this year are pretty simple, collaborate with as many talented artists as I can and just put out as much good music as I physically can.
