What first drew you into music?

CLIFF: I loved to listen to music since I was young. I always had earphones on blasting music with my mp3 player. That led me today that I can’t listen to my friends talking in the bar next to me but I am pretty much the guy who can’t live without music.

Having an interest in music naturally led me to attend a music school called “Berklee College of Music”. Then I started to meet other great musician and just being around them made me work harder as who I am now.

SHELBY: I remember growing up with parents who had the biggest appreciation for all types of music. They aren’t serious musicians, but they had passions for it. I channeled that passion growing up and it led me to meet more musically inclined friends.

Listening to your music we can tell you love incorporating interesting new sounds and techniques within each track! What inspires you to experiment and evolve?

CLIFF: Experimenting sounds and techniques has been my passion for a long time. My desk is full of synthesizers, drum machines, modular synths, and audio processors. Playing around and experimenting sounds with my gears gives me creative ideas that leads me to another experiment and so on.

SHELBY: This is one of the main reasons I love making music with Cliff. He’s never shy or hesitant to do something weird and different. Being around musicians that break barriers is what inspires me to create art that touches and moves people.

It seems like you already found your signature sound Do you have any tips for upcoming musicians that can’t seem to find their own sound?

CLIFF: I think listening to many different music helps you to build your own color. Not sticking with a certain genre is a key here. Listen to different instrumentation, tempo, arrangement, sound, even mixing will give you ideas to explore your musicianship. For instance, I started my music career as a DJ spinning Disco and House, and I brought the idea of groovy percussion rhythms from the house music to trap music that adds the grooviness.

SHELBY: All I can say is that in my search to be 100% honest with myself, I was able to be 100% honest with the music I create. Being an artist is knowing yourself and your passion.

Your track “this that shit” is your best track in our opinion! From its artwork to the Incredibly powerful sound we absolutely love it. Could you tell us more about the story behind this track? Also, what is your creative process like?

CLIFF: Shelby and I have been best friends for years. Cause we both know each other so well, we respect each other’s different musical taste and preference of workflow. Understanding each other has been a great advantage for us. And our creative process is actually simpler than you think… I make beats and beats until Shelbs finds the one that has a good energy, and Shelbs writes lines until I feel like it. We made some good vibes like “thisthatshit” but we also made something bad too. We tried and experimented with many different things for this album. And admitting that we can’t always make good music gave us a braveness to move on if we don’t like it.

SHELBY: “I WAS MAD AS FUCK WHEN I WROTE THIS SONG. SERIOUSLY. I was coming back from home from a long day of work. My boss had just told me that I probably wasn’t gonna go far in music. Around the same time getting home, I got a text from somebody who bullied me for years asking if I needed any guitar of my beats. So, I dedicated this song to the people who will always hate until you have things going for you. Those same people will come back for their cut of your success…yeah, this is THAT shit.

What are your musical goals for the future?

CLIFF: Simply, I want to satisfy my passion of garnering knowledge about music technology and to collaborate with artists to make moving art.

SHELBY: I want everybody to feel like they be can themselves. That they can be happy doing what they’re passionate about and they can turn dark to light in any situation. I want people to find peace in their struggle. Last, I want to be able to support myself and my loved ones at the qualities of life we all dream about.

What do you have planned for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

CLIFF:

“thisthatshit” is part of our upcoming album “Trap Excursion” and “Trap Excursion” will be out around next month. We are happy to share our best works and we are even planning to print the album to vinyl. We love to work together, and we are already working on “Trap Excursion Vol.2”.
