What first drew you into music production and EDM production in particular?
I liked electronic dance music since the beginning, I use to always listen to Tiesto and all of the Spinnin Records artists. I started out producing future house after hearing Tchami’s MYB remix back in 2013 and I was just mind blown at how crazy electronic music can get. Fast-forward a few years, I wasn’t too happy with producing future house, it was getting too repetitive for me. I wanted to create something different, something unique that didn’t really have that 128bpm structure. That’s when I discovered Tiger Blood by Hawai’i producer Graves (shoutout to Graves) and the world of future bass/trap music.
Coming from beautiful Hawaii do you feel inspired by nature and the incredible Hawaiian culture?
Growing up in Hawai’i really did inspire me a lot, not so much on the nature side but the number of different people there are here. You can walk into a grocery store and easily spot 3 or 4 people with different ethnicities, its crazy. For the most part, the diversity is what led me to produce such a wide range of music at this point in my music career. I began to experiment with different genres ranging from reggae to hip hop. Electronic music was one of those genres that I had an ear for and which is why I stuck to mainly producing electronic music.
Future bass is known to be one of the most complex genres to produce, how did you manage to develop such great mixing skills in such a short time? Also, what is your studio setup like?
Honestly, I learned from YouTube, I devoted a lot of my time to hone my production and mixing skills by watching videos. Never underestimate the internet, there are so many things you can learn just by googling a couple words. I also attend the University of Las Vegas where I am taking music technology classes that fine tune my mixing and mastering skills. As for my studio setup, I just have a laptop and studio monitors. I can’t play the piano so I just write in the chords in the DAW. It’s a lengthy process but it gets the job done haha.
Your latest track “The viridian forest” is your best track in our opinion! From its artwork to the Incredibly powerful sound we absolutely love it. Could you tell us more about the story of this track? Also, what is your creative process like?
I got the idea of the song back in April of 2017 from a Pokémon game (haha crazy right.) There was this one forest in the game called The Viridian Forest. This forest would always get my attention because of the name, it sounds magical and filled with mystery. This is what led me to create a track around that forest. I started out by listening to the theme song for the forest, from there I created the melody, pluck, and bassline of the track. I also kept in mind the whole “magical” and “mysteriousness” theme of the place. 4 months later I finished it, I was pretty excited on how it came out.
2017 has just passed us, how would you summarize 2017? Did it turn out the way you expected it to?
2017 was really when I realized that my music is actually getting somewhere. I released Feel You which was a future house type of track and it gained a lot of attention, that was also my first label release as well so I was super stoked about that. Ever since then I stuck to future bass and created some really dope songs one of them was Waves with R&B singer/rapper Tejai Moore, my first ever project involving a singer. I’d say 2017 was all about learning for me and it really turned out better than expected.
2018 has just began, what are your goals for the new year. Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
My goal for the new year is to keep growing as an artist and to create music that I love not what other people like. I also want to put myself in a good position in the music scene where anything can happen. I have a song coming out Future Bass Records called Free Fall which will come out on February 12th. This one will be a banger, trust me. I am also planning another song with Tejai Moore again. We both want this to be a song you can vibe with during the summer so be on the lookout for that one.
