Decoding Liverpool’s Latest Prodigy: Discover Lee Carter

Another incredible find from Liverpool, England, Lee Carter’s earned the support of some of the biggest (like, seriously—the biggest) names in the dance music industry, started his own label, Carter Recordings, and helped develop careers of other up and coming artists all the while building up his own. So, yeah, he has a lot going on, and we’re extremely impressed, to say the least.

While the vast majority of his productions fall into the progressive house and electro house categories, you’ll find some of Lee’s releases (mostly upcoming ones) fall into the categories of other styles like tech house and techno. The variety in sub-genres stems from his conscious decision to keep his musical diversity as on point as ever, so you’ll never get tired of the incredible sounds he’s putting together for his devoted listeners. Much like most up-and-comers, Lee’s 3 years into what will without-a-doubt be a lifelong DJ/producer career, but he’s been in love with the genre most of his life. It’s when he heard Afrojack & David Guetta’s stellar collaboration Louder Than Words that he took a step back and realized that this was what he wanted to do with his life. The shivers, feels, and vibes that song gave him drove him to create his own songs with the same powerful energy. (Note: It worked out pretty goddamn well, Lee.)

Many producers throw together a quick melody and then move on with the parts of the track they consider more important, but Lee spends most of his time perfecting his melodies to create songs you’ll be humming for hours after hearing them. When you think of all the amazing hit tracks you used to listen to, the first thing that’ll probably pop into your mind is the melody. First just bits, but then you’ll be singing it at the top of your lungs before you can stop yourself. To create the tracks you’ll never forget, you need to create a melody that connects with you in a way percussion and other elements never will. That’s what Lee’s noticed, and he’s well on his way to mastering the art of memorable anthem-making. Don’t believe us just yet? Check out For You, below—we’ve been singing it for days. Try not to. We dare you.

The rest of the year will be filled with numerous solo Lee Carter originals, and a few unique collaborations. Each track is completely different than the next, so you’re in for a well-rounded view of everything Lee can do with his musical talents. His label, Carter Recordings, has several high-calibre tracks already supported by renowned artists on the way for 2015, and we’re eagerly awaiting their releases! Lee’s committed to making Carter Recordings a place for nothing but immeasurable authentic talent, and the praiseworthy music they create. No fads, no one-hit-wonders, and no tracks that “just make the cut,”—his label’s the place for fostering real talent and giving them the platform from which to share their music with the world. He lists the incredible Oliver Chang, Daniel Étienne, Zell Hanssen, and Pablo Henrique among the many producers he’s had the pleasure of working with.

It sounds a bit cliché to say one of the biggest things that drives him are his fans, but it’s really true. It’s hard to make it as a DJ/producer—especially in a time where every teenager with a laptop feels entitled to your listens. So, yeah, Lee went through periods when he felt like giving up, but the support he got from other artists and fans alike gave him the motivation to power through and keep doing what he loves. Each play, each like, and each comment—that’s what keeps him going. We’re delighted he’s still at it, and you all better keep listening, because he’s only going up. Feel free to stalk Lee at his upcoming UK shows (dates to be announced), and he may be headed throughout Europe for a few shows near the end of the year, so we’ll make sure to let you know when all that info’s out! Check out our selections from his SoundCloud, and make sure to hit him up on social media!
