Catching Up With Jordyn Benedict
What first drew you into music and R&B/Soul in particular?
I have been singing and writing songs ever since I was a little girl! I guess I have always known that music is my passion and I could never picture my life any other way. At a very young age, I was so drawn to R&B/Soul music with artist influences such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, and Usher. I love how the genre has grown and evolved, with such fresh sounds and ideas. The music just has so much truth and beauty, who wouldn’t love it?!
Your latest track “Imy” features some very heartfelt lyrics and is very well produced, Care to share more about the story behind this track?
Actually, the whole process of creating this track was very out of the ordinary! I had just bought a little recording set up and I was looking through Soundcloud for beats I could practice recording and producing vocals over. I came across this incredible producer named Efiermo from Chile and the song I wrote over the track was merely just for practice. I was on my first college vacation back home in California and away from my first love. The lyrics really paint how even though long distance can be hard, it is impossible to give up on something that is so real. I ended up showing my good friend Landon Sears what I recorded and he laid down a brilliant verse… and the rest is history!
Nashville is one of the best cities for a singer/songwriter to live in, Care to share more about how it is like in Nashville for a songwriter?
I never thought that I would end up living in Nashville, but it has been such an incredible experience! I have met so many talented writers, artists, and producers that I can call my best friends. The opportunities are limitless in this city, and it is so incredible to be surrounded by others who share the same passion and drive as I do! I really could not be in a better place to start out as a new artist.
You have released two original tracks in the past year and they are incredible! Do you plan to keep releasing more originals in 2018? Also what at is your creative processes like?
Well, thank you so much! 🙂 I am SO stoked about this year because I have been working on lots of new music with such talented peers that I can’t wait to release. I have been working the hardest I have ever worked on my music, and I plan on working my butt off until I achieve my goals. My creative process is always changing. Sometimes, I write solely off of piano and voice, other times I collaborate with producers from all over the world over the internet! I also have loved getting into cowriting recently! You can catch me writing songs in my car, my apartment, the elevator, literally wherever inspiration strikes!
2017 has just passed, how would you summarize 2017? Did it turn out the way you expected it to?
2017 was definitely a year of personal growth. I learned how to take fate into my own hands by taking action. You truly can accomplish anything you want if you stay focused and driven throughout all the ups and downs life has to offer. There is no way you can fail if you never give up! This is just the beginning and I know there is so much greatness to come.
2018 has just began, what are your goals for the new year? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
My number one goal of 2018 is to create, create, and create. I want to connect with as many people I can. I also plan on playing shows throughout Nashville, while recording lots of music so that I can grow as an artist and get my name out there. Keep an eye out because I have a new single, “Sunshine,” coming out featuring another up and coming artist, zyyn, at the end of February on all music platforms!! I am really proud of this one and I am so excited to share it with the world!
