If listeners desire a fresh take on club-anthem EDM, they need look no further than the recently released Marked EP by Danny Ray. The producer/DJ from San Diego has created an industrial house track that combines hard hitting elements with a late 2000’s EDM feel. Marked seems to be an amalgamation of many genres, though the industrial and big room sounds are the most evident. With an extremely distorted intro and build up, the track’s use of volume levels, which range from silence to very loud, emphasize style differentials as Danny Ray transitions from drop to breakdown. In fact, even the level of distortional changes dramatically as if to indicate more experimental parts of the song. Danny Ray is able to draw on many styles to create a unique piece that will appeal to both club regulars and those wishing to step outside the boundaries of modern EDM.
